The village of Shiroka Laka is an architectural and folklore reserve. It got its name from the old Bulgarian word " lѫka " which means curve. Shiroka Laka is famous for its authentic Rhodope houses like Zgurovskata, Uchikovska, Grigorovska etc.
The "Assumption of Virgin Mary" Church is one of the local attractions. It was built in only 38 days in 1834. Iconostasis of the church is unique. It is assumed to have been painted by the students of the brothers Dimitar and Zahari Zograph from Samokov. There is also a hypothesis that they themselves have painted the church. Near the church is the old school of the village, built in 1835.
Shiroka Laka is among the villages where Rhodopean folk song was born. Many popular singers and bagpipers were born here. Proof of this is the Music school for folk songs and dances, established in 1972.
