Rock phenomena around the town of Smolyan
Nevyastata (The Bride)
The rock massif is part of the unique natural landscape, rising high above the left bank of Cherna river. The name of the cliff-guardian of the city is associated with many legends. According to one of them a girl from Smolyan that belonged to one of Karadzha voyvoda’s brigands was forced to become a woman of the local Turkish ruler. She agreed but her last will before the wedding was to see her birth place from the rock. She struggled away from her guards and jumped from the high rock. Since then people call this rock Nevyastata (The Bride).

The rock is considerably high and one can enjoy the unique view to the peak of Snezhanka, Smolyan waterfall, Smolyan lakes and Nevyastata.
Chervenata skala (The Red Rock)
People also call it “The Great Wall”. It is a huge rhyolite block higher than 100 meters. Origin of its name is connected with many legends, too. Common sight in the area are the herds of wild goats grazing peacefully on the inaccessible slopes.
